Hi, My name is Eric McCarthy, and welcome to Chicken Tractor Plans. The innocent request of my six year old daughter to raise some chickens led me do a little research online and find out if even possible. I am a middle-aged teacher with only basic construction skills and a very limited budget, so I knew if keeping chickens required an elaborate and expensive structure then it would not be feasible.

In searching chicken coop plans, I came across the term “chicken tractor”. After reading about chicken tractors, I knew that was the
solution I was looking for. It turns out that chicken tractors are ideal for suburban backyards like ours, and are quite simple to build. The materials for our chicken tractor cost under $100 and were based on a set of chicken tractor plans I purchased online.

I also found numerous plans for larger chicken coops, but I knew these were beyond my budget and abilities so the plans listed below are ones that are cheap and easy to build, and best for those looking to keep just a few chickens.

These are probably the best selling chicken coop plans being sold online, based on the number of sites that are actively promoting them. The plans are very professionally presented, and include plans for three sizes of coops. The smallest design is actually an A-frame style chicken tractor suitable for 3-4 chickens. All plans include a list of materials and step-by-step instructions. At $29.95 these plans are a bit more than the very similar chicken tractor plans listed below, but of course plans for two other sized coops are included in the event you ever wish to expand the size of your flock.

This is the brand new product and is the only guide that I am aware of that is video based. It contains video instructions for 2 different coop designs. The smallest one is only 3 feet x 3 feet and appears to be very easy to build with only a few basic hand tools. With the addition of some 2 x 4 boards attached to either side of the coop for handles, this design could easily be converted to a chicken tractor (the wood floor would also be omitted).
